In Masese, Uganda, a slum village neighboring the charming town of Jinja, location near the Nile River groups of women meet and share small tools to create their beautiful and unique jewelry from none other than paper. Some have devastating conditions and diseases like Aids, many are widowed or have been abandoned by their husbands, some are grandmothers raising their orphaned grandchildren. Some are young mothers, struggling to feed their families and themselves all while trying to come up with the financial means to keep their small homes.
Each bead they roll gives them hope as each bead will soon become a colorful and beautiful piece of jewelry made from 100% recycled paper. Proceeds from the jewelry not only support the women crafting the beads but to the school their children are attending in hopes to expand the school to provide more teachers, more daily nutrition, more literacy and more education for a better future.
